Homeless Sex Offender Faces Life In Prison

In Augusta, Georgia, a homeless sex offender is facing life in prison because he does not have an address to register with state officials.

In 1994, Larry W. Moore Jr. was convicted of indecent liberty with a child in North Carolina.  He was convicted this week of violating the sex offender registry requirements in Georgia.  This is his second violation of the registry laws and the penalty for the second violation in Georgia is an automatic life sentence.

The sex offender registration law in Georgia is one of the toughest in the nation.  Convicted sex offenders are required to have an address and forbidden to live or work within 1,000 feet of schools, day care centers, churches, swimming pools and school bus stops.

There is a strict requirement for registration and stiff penalties for non-registration.  Being homeless is not an acceptable excuse under the law.
